At the begining of this month 14 wanna be golfers enjoyed a days golf at Crondon Parl Golf for Wickford Towns first Golf Society day. The day started well with Bacon rolls and coffee and for me this turned out to be the highlight of the day. To be honest, it was'nt much better for Bill (Chairman of the society and captain of the day) who started three off the Tee. After the recent high temperatures the cool morning and overcast sky was welcome. Each group got on there merry way and all except one made it past the ladies Tee. Tony Silk followed up the rear in a royal blue eco-friendly disability car (golf cart). And so we all set off in our groups. From time to time we waved at each other as we passed (I think they was waving) and in the good nature of golf assisted each other in locating lost balls. As I started up the 16th hole I mentioned to my companions how hot it seemed to have got in the afternoon. They responded saying that the clouds had cleared quite quick but I wouldnt have known as I spent most of my time in the trees. The round was coming to an end as a I tee'd off the 18th. I had a quick count up and was amazed that 10 of my balls had been stolen by rabbits or squirrels. Afterall, I knew exactley where I had hit the ball. A quick meal and a couple of drinks later and we was ready for the presentation. The raffle was drawn and the prizes's given. I won't ruin the storey's of "how close" or "how long", or of mr Boakes getting lost in the long grass of the rough. It was a good day out and good fun was had by all. The next Golf Society day will be posted on this website. Everyone is welcome no matter how good or bad you think you are.
